What Happens If I Miss a Payment?

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Missing a scheduled weekly payment into your escrow account can happen for many reasons — a short-term cash flow issue, a banking delay, or simply an oversight. At Debt Consultants Group (DCG), we understand that life and business don’t always go as planned, and we’re here to help you stay on track without unnecessary stress.

Here’s what happens if you miss a payment — and how we work with you to resolve it:

1. You’ll Be Notified Promptly

If a scheduled payment fails (due to insufficient funds, a closed account, or other reasons), you’ll receive a notification from DCG within 1–2 business days. We’ll also reach out to verify the issue and help you find a quick resolution.

2. Your Case Manager Will Follow Up

Your Case Manager will contact you to:

  • Confirm the reason for the missed payment

  • Discuss your current financial situation

  • Help you update banking information if needed

  • Reschedule or adjust your payment, if appropriate

The goal is to get your program back on track with minimal disruption.

3. Temporary Pause in Negotiations

If payments are missed or delayed for an extended period, your program may be temporarily placed on hold. We may pause negotiations with creditors until your escrow account is current again, since settlement offers require proof of funds.

4. Risk of Missed Settlement Opportunities

If your escrow balance isn’t growing as expected, we may be unable to fund an approved settlement on time — which could delay your progress or require us to renegotiate with the creditor. Timely resolution of missed payments is key to avoiding this.

5. No Late Fees or Penalties from DCG

We do not charge late fees or penalties for missed drafts. However, it’s important to keep your Case Manager informed so we can proactively protect your program and timeline.

6. Flexible Support

If your missed payment is part of a larger financial change, let us know. We may be able to adjust your payment plan, temporarily lower your contributions, or restructure your schedule to fit your updated needs.

In Summary

Missing a payment won’t remove you from the program — but quick communication helps avoid delays or lost settlement opportunities. Contact your Case Manager as soon as possible so we can resolve the issue together and keep you moving forward.
